Steps to reproduce:

Current driver versions:

1. AMD Radeon Graphics - 30.0.13044.3001

I will forward the information to the relevant department. We will keep you updated and your consideration will be very much appreciated.

  • @3dmikee

Our tech team indicates that the phenomenon cannot be reproduced. We recommend that you reboot your laptop after turning on HDR, and then open the browser to watch the video to confirm. Thank you.

This is a temporary crutch, it turns out that the function declared in the specification does not work as declared. Did you watch the video in the first post? That YouTube guy has exactly the same problem with same Vivobook 15.

Nevertheless, I will try to figure it out on my own and I will definitely write the solution

How to fix HDR display not working on Windows 10

Before you can start using your display for HDR content, you have to make sure the display is HDR-compatible, and you have to enable the feature on the external display (if applicable) and on Windows 10.

    Confirm HDR compatibility

To check if the display is capable of HDR content on Windows 10, use these steps:

    1. Open Start.
    2. Search for dxdiag and click the top result to open the app.
    3. Click the System tab.
    4. Click the Save All Information button.
    5. Select a location to save the output file.
    6. Click the Save button.
    7. Open the file with Notepad.
    8. Search for Advanced Color and determine if HDR is supported:
      • AdvancedColorSupported – indicates display driver with support for HDR10 is installed.
      • AdvancedColorEnabled – indicates that HDR is enabled.
    9. Quick tip: To search on Notepad, use the Ctrl + F keyboard shortcut, type the search query in the "Find what" box, and click the Find Next button. You can also use the "Direction" option to look up or down from where you're in the file.

I finally found the cause of this issue and it's your Asus Optimization service. Temporarily disabled it in Windows Services Management, so how can I reinstall it proper or maybe its a bug?

  • @3dmikee

    So you mean

    1. You have confirmed that the video you want to play supports HDR.

    2. After enabling HDR, the laptop has been restarted.

    3. After restarting the laptop, open the browser to play the video, still got color errors?

  • @3dmikee

Could you please provide the screen of "Asus Optimization service" for my feedback?

    Thank you.

  • 3dmikee3dmikee Level 2

    1. You have confirmed that the video you want to play supports HDR.

This happens to any video, including live streams, whether or not it supports HDR.

    2. After enabling HDR, the laptop has been restarted.

    3. After restarting the laptop, open the browser to play the video, still got color errors?

Why restart the computer every time if everything works for other owners without this procedure, I don’t understand this. Okay, if I reboot and turn off HDR color distortion will begin.

Could you please provide the screen of "Asus Optimization service" for my feedback?

    Here is msconfig

With this service disabled, I don't have to reboot the laptop as you suggest because everything works as it should and there is no color distortion in any case when switching HDR.

I reinstalled the Asus System Control Interface program that brings Asus Optimisation service and didn’t work, apparently there is an unknown bug. But as you know, this service is responsible for the hotkeys and some functions of the MyAsus.

And about the launch error of the graphics control panel I wrote in the first message also found a solution:

https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/amd-radeon%E2%84%A2-settings-lite/9N9370CRZ0FN?hl=en-us&gl=US — this program to which you give a link on the driver download page does not start

https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/amd-radeon-software/9NZ1BJQN6BHL?hl=en-us&gl=US — this version of the graphics control panel starts up and works properly

The following are the relevant instructions provided by the Microsoft website.

Since we have not reproduced the same situation as you, it may also be caused by system program conflicts. If the situation has improved after disabling the service, we recommend that you use this method first. Sorry for any inconvenience it may be caused.

Thanks, this is a link with general answers where there is no solution. I also updated the Splendid driver and that didn't fix anything. I don't know what system conflicts can be when only a couple of programs are installed

  • 3dmikee3dmikee Level 2

New details. This conflicting program turned out to be your own Splendid program, not a AsusOptimization service. I completely uninstalled Splendid from MyAsus in the following way:

    1. Delete Asus Color Profiles on Color Management

    2. Delete folders:

    c:\programdata\asus\asus system control interface\asusoptimization\splendid

    3. Delete Monitors\Splendid on Device Manager

    4. Restart

And now there are no color distortions, but if install Splendid the issue begin again!

MyASUSSplendid_ASUS_Z_V5.0.0.298_14283. Before that, the same problematic MyASUS_Splendid_202000651_ASUS_Z_V3.0_1298 was installed.

I am facing the same issue on my 14inch model

These are definitely problems with the quality of drivers. Here are more posts with this issue:

The fact that they have problems with drivers is 100%

And they don't want to admit it!

I myself suffer from their crooked drivers!

  • sheeshkinsheeshkin Level 2

@3dmikee please contact me [email protected] I have pretty the same issue

  • @3dmikee

I will report your feedback to the relevant department again.

Sorry for any inconvenience it may be caused.
