When a company promises 2 major Android updates they must do it in a way that all the users can receive it.

I doubt that no tech savvy users know what root directory is (and they don't care as well). Since smartphones are consumer grade equipment they should be easy to use and update.

I had several Android smartphones and this one is the only one that should be updated manually to the most recent Android version. Hopefully this situation will last only till Asus manage to fix all the problems with Android 12 and release an OTA update after that. Otherwise the not tech users are getting only 8 months of software support which is just ridiculous.

Please stop whining. Most ppl you're describing won't care for an update anyway.
If you want aww download it and put it in root folder: the highest reachable folder of your phone

You stop whining as there are plenty of people in the same situation, not being confident in downloading and installing A12.
It's about time that Asus put it OTA and if not why?

Why are you not confident? It's as simple as posting messages on an official forum...

We are currently keeping the Zenfone 8 Android 12 FOTA rollout on hold, after receiving reports of system issues encountered by some users. Our team is currently hard at work resolving these issues, and we plan to resume the FOTA process as soon as we have a more stable version ready for distribution.
Depending on how long this takes, we will roll out another A11 update with the latest Android security patch.
For users that want to manually update their devices to Android 12, we provide a manual update file on the Zenfone 8 support web page: https://www.asus.com/Mobile/Phones/ZenFone/Zenfone-8/HelpDesk_BIOS/
(If you run into any issues after upgrading your device to Android 12, please refer to the downgrade package that can be found on the support web page. Please make sure to backup any personal data before you start the downgrade process.)

Now is all clear, I feel better knowing that soon or later android 12 will land with ota and that also android 11 security won't be forgotten.

Thank you really very much for your clarification.
