X Mode not locking to 2.96 since A11

A lot of my games are running pretty bad since A11 latest (Earlier builds weren't like this). Most of them are capped to 30 FPS and the phone is somehow struggling to even hit that. Looking at Game Genie - The clock speed is always stuck at 826 MHz.
I've tried restarting the phone, clearing cache of different apps/system, and removing the app from Crate and re-adding.

Strange about the FPS. I can hit 60, 90 FPS consistently. I have been playing COD mobile and have been without any problems though as you mention, the CPU does not lock in at max speed. Mine varies almost like the governor is set to On Demand (i.e. when the CPU resource is needed at that time). I guess this is the response to people complaining about low on-screen time when playing on their phones.
I have already done a factory reset (not for this problem) on the latest version 18.0210.2111.190. It will be interesting to see why this has happened though it doesn't affect me (well it does, but I don't feel/see the effects).
Give an upvote to this thread for asus to acknowledge it.
Yeah - I don't really get what is going on. Everything was fine until I noticed one of my games couldn't even get above 25 FPS and it was dropping frames like mad. The game itself is capped to 30.
Phone runs really cool as well. Game Genie never shows it above 30C.
Even on emulators like Citra(GitHub and Store versions), it's showing the core clocks as being low and the CPU is pretty much maxed out and it's barely able to keep the emulator around 90% speed. I've played through many games on it without any performance issues. So, it perplexes me why it's acting this way all of a sudden. Haven't installed anything new on my phone in months as well.
Due to this FPS drop and not locking to 2.96GHZ clock speed in games like CODM and BGMI, I have downgraded ROG 2 back to Android 10 !. ASUS please look into this matter and solve it with some further update!
Hi @Volodesi @Dhananjai
1.Still experiencing the same in 18.0210.2111.190?
2.Could you let me know the games in which you are experiencing this issue?
1.Was talking about 18.0210.2111.190
2.. Mostly Emulators and KemonoFriends3 (Japanese region locked game). KF3 is a 30 FPS locked game and used to stay clocked at the speeds I set (X Mode Level3, CPU2.96), at least when looking at Game Genie information. Now it's stuck at 826 MHz at home screen and during battles. The phone can barely keep the game above 20 FPS now.
I've tried force stopping Armoury Crate/Game Genie and clearing its data/cache. But doesn't seem to fix anything.
I've also gone into OptiFlex and and set up all that stuff and pretty much directly close any app I am done using, so the game I am playing should be the only thing running. I also restart my phone once a week.
It's definately happening on .190 because I get it too. I play COD but don't feel the difference I must admit.
Hello,
1. I was experiencing extreme FPS drops in A11 update .190. So, due to this I downgraded the Rog 2 phone to A10. Now, It has been more than 20 days, and I am still using A10, due good gaming experience!.
Earlier, I did multiple times upgrade and downgrade, and was hoping A11 would give good gaming performance! But, sadly it didn't work.
2. Call of duty mobile
Hello ronald1985,
CODM gaming experience was worst😥 in A11. The frequency used to stuck on 826 MHZ and was not able to reach to it's max!. Fps was between 5 to 30 fps.
1. I have downgraded to A10, due to bad gaming experience!. And A10 gaming experience is good and I am using it for more than 20 days!
2. CODM
Let games be aside. All i want to know is why isnt cpu not locking at desired freq?? Is this intentional or bug?
bcuz i have heard that few oem reduces performance of device during end of support for marketing other devices.
New update appears to be out.
I assume the "thermal experience" is an attempted fix for the clock rate. Clock rate seems to actually go up to 2.96 Ghz, but it's still not locking to it like I want. It's going all over the place and still dropping to 826 MHz and staying at that.
When it was on Android 10, it would stay at 2.96 GHz the entire time the game was running at all. Can we get this back? The clock rate fluctuating up and down is not making for a smooth experience.
Sorry for the pointless watermark. Forgot to disable it after clearing the data/cache.
Edit: Apparently there is no way to remove this watermark without removing games from Game Genie.
Edit2: Also installed Netflix on my phone with this update... how is this type of crap getting by QA?
I still dont see update rolled out in release notes
I don't expect a fix for the locked 2.96 CPU. It's probably to save the devices from dying.
Don't know why everyone is getting Netflix installed because I don't have it.
I see the logo on the screenshots taken through Game Genie though.
Starting to think this might be a Beta release. Which is odd, why is the Beta still going if A11 is out?
Edit: It's appearing on downloads. https://rog.asus.com/phones/rog-phone-ii-model/helpdesk_download
This wasn't an issue in A10. I would downgrade, but I use the Home Control menu a lot in A11. My phone never got above 40C, even when it was locked at 2.96GHz. I thought the whole point of this phone was being able to run this phone at a higher clock rate. Something you can't do on others. Pretty much makes the phone no better than my old Pixel 2XL now. Besides the very degraded battery.
Don't know why Netflix got reinstalled. I only use Emby/YouTube for watching things and uninstalled every other media app. Went to update apps and the Store showed an update for Netflix only.
yeah thats ri8 if they wanted to save devices from dying then they should just delete the option of selecting cpu freq in game genie which is just for a show now.
and from armoury crate as well.
When I factory reset - I do get Netflix being installed after uninstalling and each reboot as described by other users @Gustav_ASUS
The package triggering this is com.asus.appupdater.
As a temporary workaround, run this command in ADB shell:
You should receive a message:
Once this is done, uninstall Netflix and reboot. Netflix won't be installed.
I do not know what the side effects is though.
Man just create another thread on it. Let this thread stay on topic as mentioned in title.
I am the one that brought up the Netflix thing in one of my posts. So, it's fine.
