ZenFone 8 alternatives.
I was was of the unfortunate ones who had the rampdump problem. Sent the phone off for repair, but when it came back, the proximity sensor wasn't working. After quite a bit of waiting, and faffing about, I was lucky enough to get a refund.
Then I was faced with another problem, what phone can I buy? The only 2 phones at the time was the Pixel 5, and Galaxy S21. I think both phones are way overpriced, and couldn't justify £599/£769. I really didn't want to go back to a big phone, so I actually settled for a Pixel 4a (£300 at the time).
You know what, I've been very happy with the phone, while obviously not as powerful as the ZenFone 8, it's certainly a great phone. The phone just works, no problems whatsoever, the single camera is actually very good (especially at night), battery is far better than the ZenFone 8, and the size is great.
It got Android 12 straight away, and like I said, everything just works, and works well. I was a bit worried about the speakers, and going back to 60hz, but I was pleasantly surprised at just how good the stereo speakers sounded. They are not as good as the speakers on the ZenFone, but they are decent. Even though the screen is 60hz, the phone is very smooth, and the downgrade wasn't as bad as I thought.
If they have any in stock, Argos currently have this phone for £250, which I think is a good price. I think this phone is a great little phone that will do a lot of people until either Asus sort out the rampdump issue, or another company bring out a flagship compact phone at a good price.
I was hoping the Pixel 6 would be the phone for me, but too big, and just don't like it. The only phone I'm keeping my eye on at the moment is the Galaxy S22, but I can see that being way overpriced.
Do any of you have any good ZenFone 8 alternatives?
Comments
OnePlus 9 Pro I just purchased one and it's a great phone perhaps a little big for you but ticks all the other boxes eg powerful A12 rolled out or rolling out now
At 6.7", it's not an alternative.
Oppo Find x3 or One Plus 9, but they are 6.7
If you want something "small" like ZF8, then Iphone 13 pro, Galaxy S21, Huawei P40 (ahaha), Sony Xperia 5 III
Not many IMHO... One have to trade-off here & there...
The Xiaomi 12 looks nice on the datasheet.
6,28" 120hz, 152mm x 70mm x 8,2mm, 4500mAh, new Snapdragon 8 but not finaly released yet.
the only reason i buy zenfone 8 is because the screen size is less than 6 inch and has high end hardware. So in my opinion there is no alternative if you are like me which wanting less than 6 inch screen size.
Wait, maybe you want to consider the flip fon like Moto Razr?
P/S: I'm not an iphone fan. So only look on Android.
Xiaomi 12 looks decent, 6,28" SD gen1 :)
If size, Android, and top cpu are all musts, there is no alternative currently. And that is leaving price aside.
But Pixel 5 is great, as is Samsung s10e of you can find one.
Samsung s10e is total bs. Came from it to zenfone 8. I get a maximum of 4 hours sot...
@Lammy What about s21fe or S20Fe? Both are great imo. I also wanted to buy Zenfone 8 but unfortunately it didn't launch here, I was rooting for iPhone13 mini but it's very expensive, you can go for Pixel 5a maybe it came out on top for camera comparison on marqus Brownlee YouTube channel.
Also, if sony xperia is available Xperia 5 mark 3 is also a good option.
In my case, they are comparable, with the Z8 perhaps having a Small battery advantage over the S10e since A12. (But my S10e got officially upgraded to A12 yesterday, so we shall see.) This being said, my Pixel 5 (yes, I collect compact and small phones) is way ahead of both, easily 40 percent more juice than either.
I think the pixel 4 might fit your needs. You can get it from Amazon. USA brand new for under $500.
The 855 is faster than the 730 on my Pixel 4a and there is wireless charge which is important to me.
The only problem is that is face unlock only ( beside the pin alternative). It will get android 13 and the camera is great.
I like it a lot
Did you have exynos or snapdragon edition?
Exynos ed. European
@dragonfly5841 didn't even know about that, going to keep my eye on it, looks promising.
Hrm, me too... Well, I am happy with my zenfone
It's definitely much better now than it was a few months ago.
If your going to spend that much you can't go past the OnePlus 9 Pro three years of OS and four years of google security updates. Even if you don't keep your phone that long, and let's face it who keeps a phone for more than a year if they can afford it,it is always easier to sell for a decent price if it has OS and security updates coming. It is also one of the only phones that support Miracast,if that's something you need like me
Oh, there are many great or brilliant flagship alternatives. Oneplus, of course, but also Oppo, Xiaomi, Sony, Vivo or (for much less, if you accept less than flagship CPUs) Poco and again Xiaomi. Just not alternatives with a comparably small format. Basically, if size is key (as it is for me), just Samsung S21 for absolute flagships; and, if older (sub)flagships are ok, Samsung S20/10/10e/Note10 and Pixel 5/4a/4. And, perhaps (but it's far too tall for me), Sony 5.
Flagship that size + headphone jack = impossible :D
