Considering the black crush on the rog5 and the constant motion blur thanks to pixelworks visual processing chip I would easy it's wat better than the rog5.
as @Saifuddin was pointing out. My hands are tied there because I don't have a rog2 device so it's impossible for me to actually do anything about it. You will have to talk to a rog2 developer :(
Some private kernel devs back when it was new that I discovered a fix tried to get into my github account because they thought i had a private repo with the sourcecode, people have been spamming me to send sourcecode even tho I have clearly stated that I'd need to retrieve my data and asked them to wait a couple of days, which they responded with threats and insults, then got a bunch calling me scammer and some other borderline mental accusations like me selling kirisakura kernel as my own etc, after that fiasco I decided to go private because I have no intention of helping people who threat others like that, not to mention i have the suspicion that some probably tried to take the sorucecode and start selling rog3s with ridioclous descriptions like "rog3 with proper screen". Not to mention i got banned for literally deciding to go private, which demonstrates that there is literally no reason whatsoever to publish any sourcecode to a toxic community like that. I'm quite sure you won't have any difficulties understanding the route I took, same as many retired devs left the xda community for the very same reason and as why projects like viper4android also went private due to toxicity and shady misuse of the sourcecode.
It has black crush (dark areas losing tons of detail), it doesn't have color banding (pixalation on grey scenes). I made a video about the rog5, the problem with the phone is twofold:
1.) Crushed blacks, the phone loses quite a lot of detail because of it.
2.) due to pixelworks motion chip the thing is much like the oneplus 8 pro, it blurs the screen.
It is the same with XDA all the time. Have seen many devs leaving XDA in last decade due to some or other differences. But in the end it's your private repo, it's your choice and I respect that.
I checked black crush in completly dark room, watching dark scenes in YouTube, even on the lowest brightness and didnt notice anything wrong. I will check it again, but like I say, my biggest problem are uncalibrated colors.
Doesnt mean users don't get it, so far i gave it to everyone who asked (on other platforms than zentalk, before you get the idea of spamming my inbox), so it shouldnt affect the users, only devs.
And again. Tried a lot of dark scenes in completly dark room. Changing brightness from 100% to 0% and every detail is still visible and display looks nice, no Black crush or anything. But there is no sense to make screen less than 30% because screen is very dark even in completly darkness.
If you can , then instead of comparing with flagship of 2020 or 2021 , compare with old samsung like s7edge or onplus 7 t , 7pro or 7t pro then you will have a better idea
Just compared with S7 Edge and Mi 10T Pro. One of the testing scenes was popular Black crush Joker scene. I see that S7 Edge losing details with 0% brightness, some areas go so dark that are not visible.
ROG 5 phone is best out of this two devices. Doesnt losing any detail. I dont see the point to trying find black crush when it performs better than S7 Edge and Mi 10T Pro with 0% brightness.
Now Im sure that my device is not affected by Black crush.

ROG 5 isnt losing any detail. I see no point to trying find the black crush on my device anymore, when it performs better than S7 Edge and Mi 10T Pro in dark scenes at the lowest brightness.
It looks like my ROG 5 isnt affected by black crush.
Yes s7edge losses details in extreme low becoz nevertheless its an old technology but if you put it more than 50% its still beats quite a lot new display even with new displays 100% brightness

Now is the fix better than the rog phone 5 screen?

Kudos on fixing the issue. Wish you could make your code public for integration.

One guy do better than whole Asus team, nice.
I have ROG 5 and no black crush, what are you talking about?
ROG 5 has bad color calibration. Too much green and only little too much blue, so orange is yellow, purple is dull, etc...

here is a showcase of what I mean with black crush on rog5:
Top Rog5, bottom Mi10 ultra.
as you can see the blue curtain just dissapeared, it's gone. The blacks crushed details and the picture.

I got the point, thank you. I will check it better when Im home.

Thats the problem with the phone, it's crushed on all settings. This is why you should take another phone to compare. You'll see what I mean.
