For ROG 2 and ROG 3, Tencent Corp had to make changes from their side in order for the game to be played at 90hz.
Quite possibly, ROG 5 needs the same changes made.

As was the case with both the ROG Phone II and ROG Phone 3, 90 FPS support has to be enabled by the game developers through an update. Please check again after PUBG is updated. 🙂

Not sure - I guess they have a list of devices which they need to add in order to support the refresh rate regardless of whether the device supports it or not, which seemed odd. But I won't know exactly what they do anyway but I know it was a couple update after the big update.
