Mono Audio not working

ZenFone6, software version 18.0610.2101.127, Android 11.
The Mono Audio option in Accessibility now does absolutely nothing, all audio sources are stereo all the time. Tried restarting with the setting both on and off, not sure what else I can do besides wiping the phone and I'd prefer not to do that.
