Waiting for firmware fix ASAP.Can't afford to bring the phone to service center as the nearest service center is located at 5 hours driving (200+ km, shitty road) from my location.

  • Damn, no reply at all..

I've decided to bring my phone to service center, and they said the camera hardware is okay, they simply downgrade the firmware and the camera came back clear, but after upgrading the firmware to the latest version, the blurry camera is back.

I think the culprit is faulty firmware 16.0615.1905.102

Trying to downgrade it again to see if it is indeed the latest firmware that faulty. Brb.
  • Now it has firmware 16.0615.1907.105 and the camera version is but it is still blurry. The service center did nothing but downgrading the firmware. Come on Asus, you guys better than this...

What version of firmware are you currently using after the downgrade?

It was WW_16.0615.1905.100, and then 105 update came, it bring the problem back.

Now another FAULTY update is coming, WW_16.0615.1908.109, it completely "destroy" camera quality... it can't even use manual focus.
  • Ladies and gentleman, please welcome another GREAT update: WW_16.0615.1908.109.

Take a first look at Asus' finest firmware to date....

    Attachment not found.

Look at all that amazing detail, mesmerizing...

Now that's what I call an AI Camera! WAY TO GO ASUS!
  • Decided to went to service center for the second time and asking them to just replace the camera module - last time I went there, they just downgrade the firmware. Well, the problem is fixed now.
  • @ikkigooners Dude.. Now I am also facing the same problem with Zenfone 5Z.. What was the final solution to sort out? And how much it costed to replace the camera module in 5Z? Please reply dude. Thanks!

  • how can i downgrade the firmware? is it possible to do it without taking to the service center?

  • Same issue here. Camera is not focusing on far objects. No hardware damage. It stopped focusing suddenly. Tried almost every solution but nothing happened.

    Hi manmeetbhagat

Thank you for your asking. Are you using Zenfone 5 or Zenfone 5Z?

If your model is Zenfone 5 (ZE620KL), kindly provide the information below so that we could better assist you

    1. Your current firmware version

    Setting >System>About Phone>Software information

If you try to update to the latest version, does the issue still remain?

    2. Since which firmware have you encountered the camera not focus issue?

    3. Does it appear on the stock camera only or on other camera apps (e,g. Instagram) as well?

Please try clearing cache & storage of Camera (long press "Camera">App Info>Storage & memory>Clear cache/Clear storage), and try to re-install 3rd party camera apps and check again.

    4. Please try to enter "Safe Mode". If the function works well in Safe Mode yet the issue remains out of Safe Mode, please check on any disturbance from the installed 3rd party apps.

    # How to enter and exit "Safe Mode"

    5. Please check on SMMI test, could the device pass the SMMI test?

    Calculator> type ".12345+=">SMMI TEST>Single Test>Wide-angled Camera Capture Test/Tele Camera Capture Test/Front Camera Capture Test

*If your SMMI test is pass, please try "the Factory Reset"

    Settings>System>Reset options>Erase all data(factory reset)

Please note that once the Factory Reset is completed, all data, apps, settings and personal information will be deleted.

If the situation remains after factory reset, please do not hesitate to contact me with your issue detail and required info mention above.

If your model is Zenfone 5Z (ZS620KL), kindly refer to the link below

Take your phone to service center if possible. Camera module needs to be replaced.

  • I have updated the latest version but the camera error cannot focus not yet corrected

  • After trying a lot of things, HERE IS THE FIX:

    1. Long press power key to reboot.
    2. When ASUS logo appears, press and hold volume down key till home screen appears.
    3. "Safe Mode" reminder appears on the lower-left of home screen.
    4. After you enter Safe Mode, open the camera app.
    5. With safe mode enabled, I had no focusing problem at all! That proves it is just a software problem.
    6. Play with the camera a little bit, focus some objects and take some photos.
    7. Then restart the phone again in normal mode and start the camera.
    8. Voilà! Now the focus is back again!

I had the exact same problem described in here and without having to reset to factory settings I was able to solve this issue. I hope this solves all of your problem.

  • Same problem with my device, going to service center mostly today or tomorrow. Will update the details shortly.
