Why does the "auto" refresh rate setting use 120Hz on the always-on panel ?

I don't understand why the auto setting uses 120Hz instead of 60Hz in the always-on panel. It uses 60Hz in Spotify and while playing videos. Is there a specific reason for the same because if not, it only wastes more battery than needed as far as I know. Please fix this or add an additional setting panle for auto to adjust it scenario and app-wise. If there is a way to make it use 60Hz, please tell me.
