Hi, I'd like to bring to your attention that I faced the same problem as described here by @stevenclin and @Billy768, i.e. that I couldn't download attachments from Gmail with message "Failed to download the attachment, please try again". To no avail, I tried pretty much all the solutions that I could find on the web before resorting to factory resetting my Zenfone 8. It's worth mentioning that the error occurred with all accounts in Gmail, but didn't occur in Outlook on the same phone, in Gmail on another phone (Galaxy S9 running Android 10, fully updated), nor in the Gmail web app in the computer browser.
As suggested by @Irene2_ASUS, factory resetting solved the issue, but I'm opening the discussion because I want to avoid having to factory reset my phone again in the future (especially for such a small problem) and therefore I'd like the issue to be investigated thoroughly and solved.
The affected phone is a Zenfone 8 running Android 11, fully updated (version 30.12.112.46). See below the log I could find that seems to contain the same error reported in the linked discussion (java.lang.SecurityException: Unsupported path):
