Detailed description:

Since the keyboard firmware update 2.7.603 / 2.7.703 (04.30.2021) the following key are not working:

shit key left side

fn keys on both sides therefore no acces for secundar funtion of F1-F12


any idea some one?

    May you help to check if your BIOS is up to date?

    If so, please load BIOS default setting again.

    You may also install that firmware again and reinstall ASUS System Control Interface V2 driver.

    Bios is up to date ver. 315

    I've done the reset to default, too

    I've downloaded both Hotfixes from Asus and tried to reinstall them, but it only told that the driver is up to date no futher action needed.

    Asus System Control Interface V2: i have'nt found only the driver, only the app in Windows Store

    nothing changed regarding to my actions so far.. still no left shift key no fn keys

    Hey Blake,


    so since last time i've reinstalled both the hotfix 2.7.603 / 703 also the Asus System Control Interface V3.

    absolutely no change...no left shift no fn keys...then following the suggestions from user support i'wiped the data and made factory reset with Windows 10, too

    no change...


    do you think a BIOS downgrade would help something or should i apply a waranty repair?

    Hello szilvio,

    I'm afraid that there were something wrong with the keyboard firmware update.

    Please kindly send the device to our service center.

    We might need to reset and reflash the firmware completely by a different tool.

    hello, i do have the exact same issue, the same keys are concerned.

    i have sent an email to the asus support and their answer is just to follow instructions on their faq but it does not work at all. see "[Notebook] Troubleshooting - How to fix Keyboard problems".

    here is what i've done to solve this issue, but nothing has worked.

    * i have completely reinstalled windows 10 and nothing has changed.

    * i have tried ubuntu (live cd) and the hotkeys + left shift key does not work either on this os.

    * i have downgraded the bios (309) then reinstalled the lastest one (315)

    * i have installed an older keyboard firmware

    * i have installed an older version of the ASUS System Control Interface V2 and reinstalled the newer one.

    i hope a new firmware or whatever will be released soon to fix that bug and, if so, lock auto updates to avoid more issues from asus in the future... it is quite a shame when we buy a $3000 computer to see such issues few weeks after we've bought it.

    Thank you for the information.

    I have consulted more about this issue.

    But I'm afraid that the most efficient way to solve it is to send the laptop to service center,

    and we will reset and reflash the firmware for you.

    This is really boring to see a new computer having such issues. I've already sent my Asus to the after-sales service because of a line of dead pixels on the screen. Now, because of a bug on the firmware... what a pain for a new computer. I thought Asus was a brand with high quality, I'm asking myself about this assumption.

    Be that as it may, I will block auto-updates of the firmware since the updates from Asus may fail. I think it would be a great advice to people having an Asus computer to avoid updating firmware if their computer works well. It is a pity to see that auto-updates are set up by default and that they can fail so easily...

    I am more and more disappointed by this computer. As I need it to work, sending it to Asus to flash firmwares will be a big problem for me. No time for these foolishnesses... but well, I'll try if there is no other choice...

    I have exactly the same problems with the same notebook (G733QS) as well.

    Everything worked perfectly and now after a restart, left shift and fn keys are not working.

    Please let me know is you guys have a solution for that yet.

  • Hello guys im an owner of my new G733QR for a half day and i have the same issue left shift key and the two fn keys are not working but i was not sure if it was a problematic update or a keyboard mechanics issue until i saw that discussion. Thank God im not alone in this problem. I hope to find the answer to this issue.
