edited December 2020 in ZenBook

just bought this laptop - and from the beginning low battery capacity - held for less then 4 hours.

restarted the bios and AC adapter in the device manager - nothing help....

sent it to repair - they changed the battery - work fine for several hours and then - low capacity - held for less then 4 hours.

when charging - the led turn to white in around 98% and when it reach to 99% - the display for time for full charged stuck and it can remain on 5 minutes for more 30 minutes or so. If restart the AC adapter in the device manager while its stuck on the 5 minutes - time will update but will stuck again.

any idea?

  • Hello Eliaz,

May I know your BIOS version and may you double check if your Windows updates have all been completed?

And may I know if there is a gap between the battery time indication and the reality battery usage?

Please kindly understand that when the battery is almost full charged, the charging will be slowed down.

    Thank you.

  • all the windows updates have been completed and the time indication is variable and change evert 10 minutes. but in reality the longest time its held was 3.5 hours from full charge until it turn off.

  • Hello Eliaz,

    Thank you for the information.

In this case, we would need to dig in more on your settings when you have 3.5 hours battery usage.

Your device is i5 or i7 version?

What kind of program were you using? was the screenpad on?

What's the screen brightness, volume, Wifi, bluetooth...

you may also check in task manager to see if there is any specific function that is consuming more power than expected.

    Thank you.

  • it is i7, 10th generation

screen pad is off and also keyboard light.

CPU use less then 7%, no specific program.

use most for zoom meting and office

  • Hello Eliaz,

I see. Thank you for the information.

Let me find a device and try to simulate the same scenario as your description.

You may try to adjust some of the settings as well.

Another thing is which battery mode did you set to ?

in MyASUS and Windows Power options.

    Thank you.

  • and as you can see from the picture - 60% - 3 hours and 25 minutes left - and of course this is virtually,

  • we cant give gaurantee of battery stay for 6 hours or any hours mentioned in site while purchasing any laptop.

    reasons are very simple.

1 We use multi core function with heavy features of windows os with running lots background applications.

2 Normally laptop users 32WH or 38WH batteries , only fewmodels have 72WH but with high performance dedicated video graphics card.

3 In many cases , while working with windows os with dedicated gpus , gpus gets automatically enabled ad active throughout the running os , so the battery power decreases without knowledge

if you we use LIGHT Operating system without complecated running background services and background running applications , then definately we can get more battery life

  • so on the ASUS official web - it says that the battery hold for 50 hours - and that why I bought the computer:

as you can see when it decrease to 40% after 30 minutes - there is only 1 hour left.

I have a 5 years old asus zen book that have the same program and systems - and still hold for more then 8 hours on battery. I worked simultaneous on both the laptop and the new didn't hold. I don't know if this a problem in my laptop or it is problem with model - but defiantly there is a problem!!!! and I would be glad to get a solution.

50WHrs means battery capacity , not battery will work 50H .

In website , asus does not mentioned in words like , this laptop will hold battery power upto 50Hours in single charge.

in my laptop, battery capacity is 38WH = 38Watthour , not Working Hours .

download batteryinfoview.exe app from below link

and unzip file, execute batteryinfoview.exe , post the screenshot .

    for example

  • here it is

  • I seen the picture, battery is too good and new..

so I suspecting in windows OS . Before I give some ideas, I want to know few answers from you.

    1. which brand and model number processor is embedded in your laptop

2 which bios firmware version is installed in laptop.

3 Did high end dedicated graphics card is installed on laptop motherboard,if yes means name of GPU and size of GB

4 which edition and version of windows 10 is installed in laptop

  • the battery is new due to two reason - it is a new laptop - 1.5 month and the second is that the battery was replace 2 weeks ago by ASUS lab technician - as the battery barely worked - and they found out that it was swollen and had to changed it. So My though that it may be a problem in the motherboard or something that control the battery.

here all the information - if you need anything else just tell me where to find it

    that you

  • thanks for the detailed information

intel i7-10510U CPU , intel UHD 620 builtin gpu

dedicated nvidia geforce mx250 2gb vram

I would recommend you , upgrade the windows 10 1903 version to windows 10 20h2 build no 19042.572 and update to 19042.630

but you installed old intel gpu driver and old nvidia dch gpu driver .

you should install new intel gpu dch driver stable from below link

you should install new nvidia gpu dch driver stable from below link

and then after completing upgrade and installing new drivers , then restart windows ,

connect the windows to internet , then execute below commands in cmd prompt with admin rights

    Sfc.exe /Scannow

    Dism.exe /Online /ScratchDir:D:\Temp /Cleanup-Image /SPSuperseded

  • go to below site , download CSME_Version_Detection_Tool_Windows windows version , unzip the file

then execute CSME-Version-Detection-Tool from DiscoveryTool.GUI folder , post the scrrenshot

    for example

in picture , green line should shown , if red comes means , processor is still under vulnerable

  • thank you,

I will do it and let you know.

    I appreciate all the help

  • so I got that the system is vulnerable = what should I do

  • edited November 2020

you must flash latest intel management engine firmware version to intel i7 10510U processor by available flashing tool . Flashed firmware is permanent it cant be downgraded or deleted from processor , but it can upgraded to next version firmware .

Flashing of incorrect firmware SKU makes the laptop Dead,

but there are four SKU based above firmware version

    Intel CSME 14.0 Consumer PCH-H A Firmware v14.0.46.1431

For Comet Lake H systems which run CSME Consumer H A v14.0

    Intel CSME 14.0 Corporate PCH-H A Firmware v14.0.46.1431

For Comet Lake H systems which run CSME Corporate H A v14.0

    Intel CSME 14.0 Consumer PCH-LP B,A Firmware v14.0.46.1431

For Comet Lake LP systems which run CSME Consumer LP B,A v14.0

    Intel CSME 14.0 Corporate PCH-LP B,A Firmware v14.0.46.1431

For Comet Lake LP systems which run CSME Corporate LP B,A v14.0

Really i cant judge which SKU edition PCH - H or PCH- LB A is suitable to your processor .

for my vivobook 15 R542UQ-DM153 with Bios X542UQ model , suitable firmware is

    Intel CSME 11.8 Consumer PCH-LP C NPDM Firmware v11.8.81.3781,

i took own risk, i found the correct firmware in the non asus website , i downloaded and then i flashed to without problems .

    i downloaded the firmware

but for your model processor is doubt , so onething you can do, send an email to asus Research development team via email

  • OK,

I will send them an email.

Is this can explain the battery problem?

what that is mean that he system is vulnerable

  • system refers to processor it's can be attacked by hackers , Intel Inc already released firmware to solve this , firmware must be released by laptop manufacturers to respective models of laptops.

vulnerable processor should not be used for work..

some times battery problems can be solved by flashing intel ME firmware.

sometimes by adjusting the windows os , battery draining problems can be solved

  • I understand...

So I will monitor the battery after all the update... and I will let you know if the problem has been resolved
