Brand New ROG 3 came with a battery with no charge

I just got my brand new ROG 3 strix edition and I am a bit concerned. First thing I noticed is that it had no protective film on the screen and the battery was totally dead so much so that it would not fire up until I had it on its charger for 5 minutes or so. Is this normal. I have had tons of New phones before and this is the first one that came like this. I am wondering if this particular phone has been sold to someone else and returned??????????

the phone doesn't came with a protective film on screen. im not sure about the battery being dead in first time opening it. the firstime i opened mine has 40% something
Dont you got a sealed pack mate?
My rog 3 is heating even on slow charging mode. Any solution would be appreciated.
I'm not to concerned about the protective film I bought a ZenFone 5 z that came without one but like your ROG 3 the battery had about the same charge 40 something percent. I have only had it for a few hours (9 or so) so it's a bit early to tell of it's a Brumby. It seems to be ok so far so maybe I'm worrying about nothing but I just thought I'd ask you guys to see what you think. O well after waiting Two weeks for delivery I really don't want to return it so I guess I will just put it through its paces and see how it goes. Thanks for your response it does make me feel better knowing that they don't come with a film
No it wasn't sealed, it really doesn't look like it's been used before . I have had other New phones that weren't sealed in celafane but like this one it came from OS so I figured They open the box to put in an Australian plug
So far I have been using it non stop for about 9 and a half hours ( not gaming just mucking around with it) and the battery has only used 25% and it's still cool to touch so I think I am just being a worry wart . For $1000 investment though I don't think anyone can blame me ( except my wife of course) it is a beast of a phone though very fast indeed
so I will assumed that you got the Tencent version right? maybe that's why they opened it and forgot to shut it down XD
Did you updated it to the newest version, mine is not hot even with hypercharge on
No I didn't get the ten cent version I was careful not to get the ten cent one I can't really remember why now but when I was researching it there was something I didn't like about it
Why do you say they open the ten cent versions ? What do they need to do to them before sending them??
They flash to global ROM
Actually I'm not sure now how do you tell if it's the ten cent version. It has Google Play store and the theme store but it didn't come with the aoro cooling fan so I'm not sure now ????
You most likely got the Tencent version. They flash it with the World wide rom. That's the version I have, it is working very well at the moment.
I suggest you turn on developer mode and enable "Disable HW overlay", this will resolve most of the screen issues you will experience.
Make sure you update the firmware. You do this by downloading the latest file, then copy and paste it into the root directory of the phone. Restart it, and it will detect the update.
I hope you didn't pay more than $AU1000 for this phone. If that's the case, I think its a good deal, its a beast of a phone, very fast, I think its better value than my S20 Ultra.
I paid$950 au for it . And that's what I thought must have happened, after they flashed it they must have forgotten to turn it off thus the flat battery. I also got a 40 gb prepaid SIM card as part of the deal so I am pretty happy with the price .I have been using develoer mode for a year or so now on my old 5 z and yes it's one of the first things I set up when it arrived. I didn't know what,, disable he overlay,, did so I'll enable it now thanks for the tip . It's running OS 17 0823 2007.32 and I think the latest is OS 17.0823.2009 .98 Does that sound right. Having been flashed will it still get OTA updates when they are released??
Ok that makes sense thanks I'm learning a lot about this phone from you guys and at my age I can use all the help I can get. When I was I kid a mobile phone was totally SciFi then they brought out there thing that you needed a suit case for and only the CIA and the FBI and the like had them LOL
You must have gotten it from Kogan haha. Its amazing value, just need to live with a few issues.
Yes, .98 is the latest firmware. I was not able to get the updates OTA, so I just use the method I described to update.
Very happy with it so far. The S20 Ultra (Exynos) was a huge disappointment, I will never touch Exynos again, its so bad that the Snapdragon variant is not available everywhere.
Yes Kogan it was. I have downloaded the zip file but I haven't been able to work out how to copy and paste it to the root directory yet but I rufuse to let technology best me so I will work it out come hell or high water
Any tips appreciated but I will have to leave it until tomorrow. I've been playing with this phone since about 11am and the war office is going to kill me if I don't put it down for the night and come to bed so later guys. Again thanks for all your help and tips muchly appreciated ☺️
PS Asus is very slow with their OTA updates I do remember that much
What firmware are you on right now?
I'm assuming you want to update to .98?
