Asus battery replacement

Hello everyone, I just submitted my phone zenfone max pro m1 to the service centre today for my battery replacement and I've been told to go and get the phone in the evening. I wanted to know that can I ask them to give me the old battery so that I can keep it to myself or will it not be allowed by them?

    you can ask them to give your old battery but my sugg was let it be with them they will recycle it so that it doesn't go to landfill
