Well done. This is what I meant when I wrote to stay on the old rom because dissatisfied people (from netflix) put too much pressure on Asus. And they began to act in a hurry and in the dark, fixing one, breaking the other. For me on the Asus Poland website, There are no new updates, and the last one is from August 3, 2020. I am waiting patiently, although I sold about 30 pieces of ROG 3, no one has reported the problem to me, staying on the old rom for now (they probably don't watch Netflix 😁)
@nightmaster552 Hi bro. Any luck on finding a solution? If you have not tried anything, I request you to do so. Even though there might be a fix from ASUS ( or not ), if you can find a solution that can also help them. Thanks.
I could start making a solution right now, that being said I won't, as I would have to root the phone (lose warranty) and spend time that I don't have as I do work etc. If the issue still persists when I lose warranty then I'll create an application that will fix it, altho it will require root.
Ok@nightmaster552 . I don't mind having to root if it can fix such a big issue. But anyways, let's wait and see what ASUS do.
It seems we soon get an update that is supposedly "tweaking" it. I'd still be more after a solution such as gamma control tbh, but lets see what ASUS will pull out of their hats. Hopefully not a "oneplus fix" as I really want to be able to set to lowest brightness and not being cut off at 10 or 20%
Is that what OnePlus did? Just increase brightness?
As for the update, I think they'll just tweak the overlay again.
In order to fight the "green tint" they legit just set min brightness at 10 or 20%. So if you scroll down to 0 u have the same brightness level as previously 10 or 20%.
Also I think ASUS abandoned the overlay thing as it clearly caused more issues. Pretty sure it was just a test to see the root cause but according to a mod here ASUS finally found the root of the problem, which I assume is they found out why the gammalevel shifts the way it does. That could mean a proper fix is incoming, lets hope.
Nice to hear that. Can u attach the mod's statement?
"Black crush issue will be improved in coming october end FOTA
Asus knows real cause of balck crush and they are working really hard to fix this ASAP
Stay tuned ! 😉"
quoting the mod.
Thanks for the quote. If it is true that they found it, then I'm very happy. Let's hope for the best.
"Real black crush is when there's no or so little information in a black area that it just looks like one big hole of emptiness."
"The main issue ASUS had with ROG Phone 3 is banding issue in black areas. I don't know the name for this but people normally mix it with black crush"
This is official statement
So i believeve you will see improvement with future updates
Stay tuned !
👍 I'm excited @amitgarde3
Which is caused by incorrect gamma levels and will be fixed by adjusting to proper gamma levels. 😶
So in a nutshell, I was spot on
Also for few users according to my knowledge temperoray solution to fix this is
" Increase warmth of display and turning up contrast to full will surely eliminate black crush try it "
M just guessing but no problem in trying GO FOR IT 😉
Tried it but didnt do anything for me at least.
Oh and before I forget, if possible you can tell the team to use Batman 2021 trailer on youtube as a "benchmark", honestly the black crush on that particular trailer is by far the worst, I think if that trailer runs without black crush it's more than likely 95% fixed at the very least.
Take a look at this video. A lot of black crush here too. https://youtu.be/0yRxvTntN7g
M just a common 5z user not moderator or anything but dont worry ASUS knows this so i dont think they should be bothered hereby but they are trying there best with what they can so here nothing can be done apart from patience and future FOTA'S😊
@nightmaster552 Great work on the video!. Just wanted to know if you could confirm whether you faced slight color shift on switching through each refresh rate 60-90-120-144 hz. My theme is normal i.e white notification shade. When i switch between various refresh rates via the toggle button in the quick menu i can notice little color shift with every change in refresh rate. Though 1+8T has only 60-120hz but I didn't notice any color on that while switching between refresh rates.
Correct, the gammalevels shift on refreshrate a little bit as well, this is also very typical for all high refreshrate screens, aka not only limited to smartphone screens:
It's a very common behaviour. That's why high end high refreshrate monitors have some profiles baked in for refreshrates. Cheaper ones like my AOC only has 1 profile for 144hz, meaning if I run it under 144hz it gets considerably worse in picture quality (lol).
I'll upload today a proof of concept video showing people how georgeous the Rog3 screen actually is once the gamma has been corrected.
