"Wi-Fi Call" on the Zenfone 5Z

When will the "Wi-Fi Call" option be released for the Zenfone 5Z? It is sorely needed, and many intermediary phones from other brands have this function as a default in their products.

  • I would say don't wait for it because chances is very less and it is already confirmed

  • Debasish Sahoo, who confirmed this? I have not seen any Asus newsletter on this topic. Please, if you have an official Asus document, post it here. But, what is the difficulty in implementing this function in an update? As far as I know, it doesn't depend on the hardware, only the software. Or am I wrong about that?

    Thank you.

  • Hi vitorgn

Thank you for your asking. Kindly refer to 4 main requirements below that needs to fulfill to use VoLTE/VoWiFi function :

    A. The carrier supports VoLTE/VoWiFi

    B. The carrier supports VoLTE/VoWiFi with the model

    C. SIM Card has VoLTE/VoWiFi

    D. Both side are using VoLTE/VoWiFi

First, please check with your sim carrier weather it supports VoLTE/VoWiFi in ZS620KL or not. Thank you.

  • A) Major carriers support VOLTE & VOWIFI .VOLTE works with 5z

    B) Since 5z doesn't yet support Vo-Wifi how will carriers add support ? Some of your other models have carrier support

    C) Yes .. refer to B)

    D) Query is not clear

  • Hi vkk178

Thank you for your asking. If you want to ask about Vo-WiFi, no carrier in India supports Vo-WiFi in ZenFone 5Z.

  • Requesting carriers from india via ASUS side n working via testing n signing contracts with carriers would bring some hope for 5z 😓

"please do it for us ASUS"

  • Literally no use of VoWIFI.

    Says who ?

Yes no carriers support Vo-Wifi on 5z yet because 5z doesn't have Vo-Wifi enabled.Pl add it so that operators can then support

  • Hello. I'm in Brazil, and my operator (VIVO) supports VoWifi.

My SIM card has already been enabled to make Wifi calls, but the 5Z does not have this configuration. To prove that both the operator and the SIM card are enabled, I borrowed my stepdaughter's iPhone and installed my card on the iPhone. As can be seen in the attached photo, the iPhone already has the wifi call option as a default.

At the top it can be seen that the device recognized the card with wifi enabled.

When will Asus make an update with Wifi calls?

    Thank you!

    Dear All,

    All answers in Indian Context.

I had taken up the issue with Jio Care on 28th July 2020. Their response is attached herewith, which sounds positive for VoWIFI with Asus Zenfone 5Z. Please refer to the "red" highlighted box.

If few Jio Users can take this up with Jio Care ([email protected]), I think there will be progress, in terms of whether they can provide this feature or not. Atleast, knowing whether it will happen or not, will help to settle the issue, instead of needless expectations / follow-ups. Also, follow-up from a market leader like Jio and Airtel will help to present the case, better with Asus.

I have presented here the text, which can probably be Copied & sent to Jio or Airtel Care which will help to address the issue. Please do copy paste this or draft suitably yourself and send email to

    1. [email protected]

    2. Contact us Page - Jio

    3. If you don't get satisfactory response, from care you can also write to Appellate Authority for better quality response. Please do not write to appellate for the first time, write to them, only if you don't get proper response from care.

    Dear Care Team,

    Greetings and Good Afternoon!

    My Mobile number is xxxxxxxxxx.

This is with respect to the Voice Over WiFi (VoWIFI) support for Asus Branded Handset Model # Asus Zenfone 5Z - Asus - Z01RD - ZS621KL - India Version.

Asus team says the Jio team has to finish the work whereas Operator's team says, please check the online link / for supported devices.

It would be highly appreciable if the your team can take the lead and initiate discussions with the Asus development team for the top 4 or 5 Asus branded models sold in India. Voice over WiFi is a basic necessity and it would be of great help if the your Team can really work with Asus to enable the VoWiFi support to Asus Zenfone 5Z and other 4 flagship models in Asus range.

    My Mobile Handset Details #

Brand Name # Asus Zenfone 5Z

    Model Number # ZS621KL

    Part Number # Z01RD

Once again, it would be of great help if the you Team can really work with Asus to enable the VoWiFi support to Asus Zenfone 5Z and other 4 flagship models in Asus range.

    Thanking you in anticipation.

Additionally, in the hidden menu, the settings for "VoLTE", "VIDEO CALLING" and "WIFI CALLING" are unavailable. The options exist, but Asus has locked those settings.

  • I am also from Brazil of the operator (vivo) and the device is included in the list of compatible calls for "voLTE" only that we do not have this option, I have already confirmed with the attendants on this issue, please enable these functions, which were promised since the launch. Thank you

  • Hi vitorgn and christianrodrigues1981

Thank you for your asking. To my knowledge, there is no carrier in Brazil supports VoLTE/VoWiFi in ZenFone5Z (ZS620KL). Besides, the carrier supports VoLTE/VoWiFi in one model does not mean that it supports VoLTE/VoWiFi in another model.

Please check with your sim carriers if they support "VoLTE/VoWiFi in ZenFone5Z (ZS620KL)" or not. If the carrier supports VoLTE/VoWiFi in ZenFone5Z (ZS620KL), kindly provide me your carrier name for further checking.

  • Hello Christine, how are you?

Thanks for responding, in contact with my operator, it tells me that voLTE is compatible with asus devices: Zenfone Max shot, Zenfone 5, Zenfone 5Z, Zenfone 6, voWIFI no asus is compatible at the moment. My operator is VIVO, of the telephone group SA. Thank you for your attention.

  • Hi christianrodrigues1981

Thank you for your reply!  Kindly provide the information below so that we can better assist you.

    1. Have you change your SIM card to a VoLTE-supported SIM card from VIVO?

    2. Please provide me the screenshot of

    Settings>Network & internet>Mobile Network

    3. Change your "Preferred network type" to 2G/3G/4G, does the issue remains the same?

  • I have been following up with Asus since December 2019 for vowifi feature. Every time the same answer we are working on the same. O have tweeted abt the same to which Asus replied saying kindly co-operate n don't spread negativity. This was in April. Now I never suggest anyone to buy Asus, I even talk them out if they are buying one. Asus is pathetic with feature updates for 5Z. Even security patch updates are late. Asus max pro M2 got vowifi in 2019. But 5Z doesn't. It's a way of Asus to tell that those who buy flagship are fools.

I use Asus as secondary handset for primary use I purchased Realmex last October. It's working really good with regulat feature and security patch updates

  • Wow carries support your budget phones India but not your flagship model. Isn't that intersting. Admit it you guys are pathetic n lazy, not bothered abt getting the feature on 5z

  • Soon I will throw this garbage, won't even opt exchange. Don't want anyone else to suffer. Better to go for value for money brands realme, Xiaomi, etc

  • Hello Christine! A pleasure to talk to you again.

My SIM card is enabled for voLTE and voWIFI on VIVO's network, I even tested it on another device and it worked, the issue of voWIFi to VIVO already told me that 5Z does not support on its network, Only Sansung and Iphone, but voLTE is compatible with the 5Z, even the operators told me that when I went to the mobile network I would have a menu to enable "4G call" but I don't have it on my 5Z, I will send you the screenshot. Thanks for listening
